In this irreverent adventure thriller, an impoverished noble (Horrationald Beake) betrays his barbarian in-laws and finds refuge in the dark and dangerous city of Margue. Committing every possible moral infraction in order to get ahead he accidentally becomes embroiled in a plot to overthrow the city council and spark a civil war in the Republic.

Told in the style of a censorious 'tell-all', Horrationald Beake, now a famous old man, seeks to record his version of events and smear as many characters' reputation as he can before his pursuers eventually catch up with him. The story centers around a key historical event in this world's history where The Big Anna, a locomotive machine of epic proportions, explodes during a festival of magic sparking a war between those who support the old ways of tradition and magic and those who support the new technological revolution.
